Our annual President's Day was held on Sunday 2nd August at West Wimbledon CC, with more than 100 people attending across the day. The weather was once again fantastic and we are extremely grateful to our main club sponsors Currie Motors, who had a shiny new motor on site for most of the day and ran a fun competition (see below for winners).

All those who attended were treated to three cricket matches, with a bouncy castle, croquet, giant jenga and golf putting amongst the other attractions on offer. There was also a brilliant BBQ thanks to our friends from Wimbledon Common Golf Club.

President's XI vs Club XI

The Club XI (captained by Shak Nawaz) batted first against the President's XI (captained by Mark Streather) in an internal battle for the ages. Opening batters and bowlers were randomly drawn out of a hat, which threw up some very interesting combinations!

Skipper Nawaz hit 53 retired not out and there were contributions throughout the order from Alistair Glossop (43), Haris Shahid (33) and Saif Sajid (29) as the Club XI posted 223/8 declared from 35.5 overs. Andrew Merriman (3/47) led the way with the ball for the President's XI.

Debutant Milo Turcan (3/20) ripped through the top order and the President's XI were struggling at 62/6. Sid Goud (52 retired not out) stepped up with a brilliant knock to hold the innings together and claim the player of the match award. Captain Mark Streather (53 not out) defied his advancing years and a finger injury at the other end and suddenly the game was evenly poised. Merriman (26 not out) and Matt Bartlett (22 not out including a monster six) helped the President's XI to victory by 3 wickets, which ironically was achieved in exactly 35.5 overs (the same as the Club XI).

Women's XI vs Overton Park

A friendly fixture against Overton Park was the fixture of the day and the opposition batted first. The bowling was shared around as all eight players turned an arm over, with Abby Mustoe (2/17) the best figures. A strong Overton Park batting side managed 151/5 from 16 overs for a pairs net score of 326. It was tough going against some good bowling and WWCC posted 95/6 from 16 overs for a pairs net score of 265. It was a defeat but a thoroughly enjoyable game.

U15s

The scheduled U15 game didn't quite go as planned with the opposition no-showing. Instead an impromptu pairs competition was arranged, which also featured some lively performances from some of the dads. The winners in a fun contest were Caspar Moore and Charlie Durling.

Currie Motors Competition

How many balls were in the back of the brand new Toyota? The correct answer was....118! Congratulations to joint winners Milo Turcan and Gemma Hartley who both guessed correctly.

Fundraising

A brilliant amount of money was raised for the club across the day, especially through he prize raffle draw.

The big prize was two tickets to the 3rd test match at Lords between England & Pakistan with Steve Bastian being the lucky winner. There were runner up prizes won by Alistair Glossop, Andrew Merriman, Debarshi Roy, Lance Sapsford & Matt Bartlett.
