Bank Cup Report

Richard Kendall9 Jul - 22:00

Club XI beat Bank Blitz by 3 runs. Successful women's taster session.

It was a fine sunny evening on 8th July we hosted the inaugural "Bank Cup", celebrating our history with the Bank of England and ongoing links to the institution. We were known as BOE CC for 116 years after all...

For more information around why we changed the club's name from BOE to West Wimbledon in 2024, please see here.

Club XI vs Bank Blitz (BOE staff)

For the Club XI Shaunk Jani and Saif Sajid both reached the mandatory retirement at 25 runs in a total score of 130/5. David Friar had the champagne moment of the day with a wonderful delivery to dismiss Alf Peirse as it gently kissed the off stump bail - even the scorer didn't realise!

In response the Bank Blitz (BOE staff) had Dale King reaching the mandatory retirement age at 25 runs early. However, Samuel Chadwick (3/10) sparked a collapse from 54/1 to 68/5, but Blitz skipper John Jackson steadied the ship with an unbeaten 25.

Heading into the last over Club XI skipper Andrew Merriman had 16 runs to defend, but going into the final delivery a boundary would be enough to force a tie. Merriman defeated Club Chair Rich Kendall who could only manage a single, meaning a narrow 3 run victory for the Club XI.

Women's XI Taster Session

The new Women's XI continues to go from strength to strength, with 14 players enjoying a training session led by Emma Green. This included several BOE staff members and we hope to see a full Women's match as part of this event next year!

It was a brilliant night with some great cricket - well done West Wimbledon CC a.k.a the artist formerly known as BOE.
