Coaching Qualifications

Coaching Qualifications

Richard Kendall24 Feb - 07:45

We need more coaches!

Why does a qualification help?

Becoming an ECB qualified cricket coach is a rewarding way to share a passion for the game, inspire the next generation, develop personal skills and even improve your own cricketing performance.

We need more qualified individuals capable of helping to run sessions for both adult and junior cricket. This will provide a better experience throughout the club and contribute to providing an environment that is both safe and fun, whilst also helping players improve.

Training Courses

Training courses are provided by the Surrey Cricket Foundation (SCF) and are linked to the ECB Coaches Association (ECBCA). There are various levels available so regardless of previous cricketing experience, or intended coaching aims, there is a course for everyone.

  • Support Coach - see here. The course is designed to help develop your confidence and equip you with the knowledge, understanding and applied skills to assist a qualified coach in a coaching session.
  • Foundation Coach - see here. This course provides the knowledge, skills and confidence to coach cricket sessions that are purposeful, active, safe and enjoyable. This is equivalent to a Level One coaching qualification and equips participants with the tools to coach independently at a basic level.
  • Core Coach - see here. This course provides the knowledge, skills and confidence to to lead player-centred coaching. This is a more advanced course and is equivalent to a Level Two coaching qualification.

WWCC are willing to subsidise the cost of available training courses.

The role of the ECB Coaches Association (ECBCA)

Members come from all levels of the game and have somewhere to turn to get the ongoing support all coaches need in order to be the best they can be. Nationally, the ECB Coaches Association offers a range of products and services that help you to support players. See here for further information of the ECBCA.

Membership of the ECBCA is available for £30 per year and includes the following:

  • Further “CPD” – continuous professional development. Ad hoc sessions on particular aspects of coaching. Some are on-line, some are get-togethers at Surrey clubs, which also provide an opportunity for discussions with other local coaches.
  • Regular ECBCA newsletters, with information about the the latest news in technique development.
  • Access to ICoachCricket, providing a wide range of training activities and drills.
  • Access to national ECBCA services, such as the on-line shop, with member discounts on clothing or coaching equipment.
