Long Term Ground Agreement

Long Term Ground Agreement

Richard Kendall29 Oct - 20:25

WWCC secure long term partnership with Wimbledon Rugby Club.

We are delighted to announce that we have secured a long-term agreement for the continued use of Wimbledon Rugby Club, ensuring a stable and sustainable future for our club and community.

This agreement grants long-term access and operational rights to the ground for a significant period. It represents a major milestone in our club’s development and allows us to:

  • Invest confidently in ground and facility improvements.
  • Expand community programmes and youth development pathways.
  • Strengthen partnerships with local schools and organisations.
  • Secure the club’s home for years to come.

What Does This Mean?

The Management Committee believe it is an exciting new chapter for West Wimbledon CC. The agreement gives us the stability we’ve been working towards for a number of years, ever since being forced to leave the old BOE ground at the end of 2019. It also helps further validate the club's name change decision from last year as we embed ourselves further into the local community.

It allows us to plan for the future, grow our membership, and invest in better facilities for everyone involved with West Wimbledon CC. We’re really looking forward to developing our relationship further with Wimbledon Rugby Club, plus working with other users of the ground to ensure community sport, and cricket in particular, has a lasting legacy at the site and in the local area.

What's Next?

The first step we will be taking is to install an NTP (non-turf pitch a.k.a. astroturf wicket) to create a second cricket square. This enables us to host two games at the same time, which will really help the social side of the club. At long last the 3rd XI and 4th XI have a home alongside the 1st XI and 2nd XI!

It will also provide a brilliant pitch for the Women's XI as they enter the league for the first time in 2026. Of course, the new pitch will also be used by our junior players, with a more consistent surface helping towards better player development.

Other plans are coming together and we would love to hear ideas from our members, with a club survey being circulated soon as part of this. The AGM in February will also be a great opportunity to hear more details, so watch out for the exact date when it comes!
