Senior Cricket Last Week (15 - 21 June):

  • 1st XI lost vs Maori Oxshott by 172 runs in Surrey Cricket Championship Division 8 Central.
  • WWCC had the unbeaten opposition league leaders struggling at 34/4, but a deep batting line up still managed to pass 250+ for the fourth time this season. Skipper Andrew Merriman was heroic with 5/27 but an imposing total of 255/7 looked like a tough ask. The chase fell apart the moment Mark Streather was forced to retire hurt, with wickets falling regularly to succumb to just 83 all out in a big defeat.
  • 2nd XI lost vs Blue Wings by 5 wickets in Surrey Cricket Championship Division 11 East Central.
  • A solid start saw the score move to 45/1....but a big collapse saw WWCC post just 93 all out as Will Saich (22) top scored. Saich then took 3/26 as the opposition wobbled on 47/5, but it wasn't to be as they ran out comfortable winners.
  • 3rd XI won vs Old Hamptonians by 6 wickets.
  • In a break from league action after a team pulled out of the league, the 3rd XI had a rare Saturday timed match to contend with. The opposition managed 157 all out, largely thanks to fine spells from Ciaran Cartmell (3/27) and Oliver Chadwick (3/23). The game was evenly poised at 69/4, but Mike Broughton (79 not out) and Brad Skelly (48 not out) guided WWCC home with time to spare.
  • 4th XI lost vs Merton by 93 runs.
  • The opposition managed 209/5 despite 2/27 from Om Vasaikar and a first senor wicket for Finn Proudfoot. Vasaikar then smashed 57 with the bat and at 107/2 the chase was on. Alas it all went wrong and we collapsed to 116 all out.
  • Sunday XI won vs Worcester Park by 58 runs.
  • Samuel Chadwick (48) top scored as WWCC posted 151 all out. Umang Patel (4/30) was the pick of the bowlers with the opposition bowled out for just 93 to make it three wins in a row for the Sunday XI.
