Senior Cricket Last Week (23 June - 29 June):
- 1st XI lost vs Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth (scorecard here) by 10 runs in SCC Division 7 Central. The opposition raced to 55/0, but a superb team performance restricted the opposition to 112 all out, with Umang Patel (3/13) and Matt Bartlett (3/13) the pick of the figures. Shout out to Praveen Lekhraj with four catches behind the stumps too. The chase began terribly and we slumped to 25/7, albeit not helped by a couple of dubious umpiring decisions. Harry Varney (38) and Praveen Lekhraj (26) pit on 67 for the 8th wicket and suddenly there was hope again. Varney departed with the score on 92, but the win still looked on until Lekhraj pulled a calf muscle. Unable to stand he was out shortly afterwards and the final wicket fell soon after to leave WWCC 10 runs short of a first victory of the season.
- 2nd XI lost vs Merton (scorecard here by 77 runs in SCC Division 10 North. Josh Bastian took a wicket with the first ball of the game, but the opposition recovered to post 165/6. In response WWCC were well poised at 58/2 thanks to Umair Ansari (31)....but on a tricky pitch we collapsed to 88 all out.
- 3rd XI lost vs Epic (scorecard here) by 4 wickets in SCC Division 12 East Central. Max Johnson (31 not out) top scored in a solid total of 172/8. Max Johnson (4/69) left the opposition 115/6, but saldy they had too much batting and ran out winners by 4 wickets.
- Sunday XI drew vs Park Hill (scorecard here). Mo Dilshad (4/69) couldn't stop the opposition from racking up 219/4 declared, and despite 51 from Arin Gramopadhye the chase fell well short and ended in a draw at 152/8. The game did contain possibly a world first, as Arin and dad Uttam both managed to get out hit wicket. Surely a father and son hit wicket double has never been done before?!
- Wild West Dons T20 XI lost vs Kingstonian (scorecard here) by 8 wickets. Gabriel Standen (40) top scored on debut as WWCC posted a competitive 137/5. Alas the opposition batting proved too strong as they won with 4 overs to spare.
