Senior Cricket Last Week (27 April - 3 May):

  • 1st XI lost vs Wandgas by 9 runs.
  • The opposition were reduced to 82/8 by some excellent bowling, including two wickets on club debut by Chris Guest and an early catch for fellow debutant Jonny Hammond. Unfortunately Wandgas 9th wicket pair put on 90 to help the score to 175 all out. Felix Lamy on club debut top scored with 49, but wickets fell at the other end and the cause looked lost at 105/8. Arin Gramopadhye cracked 44 to give us a chance, but it wasn't quite enough as WWCC finished on 166/9.
  • 2nd XI lost vs Wandgas by 6 wickets.
  • Haris Shahid top scored with 24 but we could only muster 115 all out. Tom Chapman claimed 3/31 in his first game as 2s skipper as Wandgas fell to 36/4, but some missed chances in the field saw the opposition stroll home with 20 overs to spare.
  • 3rd XI lost vs Wandgas by 89 runs (DLS).
  • Sonny Tillotson was the pick of the bowlers with 3/38, but there were also wickets on club debut for his fellow u15 Josh Edwards, his dad Andy Edwards, and Jamie Bowen. Junior wicketkeeper Dylan Morgan also caught a brilliant one hander behind the stumps, but Malden Wanderers racked up an imposing 210/6. The response didn't go particularly well against a disciplined opposition attack as Mike Broughton top scored with 15, but young newcomer Charlie Durling looked assured on debut. WWCC fell to 76/7 and rain ended play for the day.
  • Sunday XI lost vs Shepperton by 1 wicket.
  • Samuel Chadwick smashed a personal best 92 as WWCC racked up 210/5 declared in quick time. The evergeeen Mo Dilshad took 3/51, but a brilliant unbeaten ton from the opposition no 4 guided them to a tight one wicket win with three overs to spare. It was a brilliant game and really showed declaration cricket at it's finest.
