Senior Cricket Last Week (4 May - 10 May):
- 1st XI won vs Ewell by 3 wickets.
The opposition decided it was a day to tee off against everything, so it was crucial that WWCC held our chances. An excellent grab from debutant Dan Willis was the highlight as Jivnaz Singh's 4/32 ripped through the opposition line up, with Ewell finishing on 164 all out. WWCC approached the chase a little differently to the opposition and sought to grind it out, with Mark Streather pacing it perfectly with 71 not out from 132 balls. A tense finale ended in a 3 wicket win with 10 balls to spare, as the 1st XI won on the opening day of the league season for the first time since 2021.- 2nd XI won vs Teddington Town by 13 runs.
Debarshi Roy (54) and James Gawn (47 not out) led the way as WWCC set an imposing 210/6 from 40 overs. Skipper Tom Chapman (3/23) made early inroads into the opposition batting and wickets fell regularly, but there was still a tense finale in store. Fortunately WWCC held our nerve as the opposition reached 197/9 and fell just short.- 3rd XI won vs Ewell by 4 wickets.
The opposition stumbled to 12/4 on the first league game on the new NTP, before launching a comeback to seize the initiative. They were helped as part of this by two WWCC players going lame in the field, but had reckoned without Ed Fresson (4/40) taking a hat trick from the final three balls of the innings. Even more remarkably the hat trick wickets were all stumped by returning keeper Brad Skelly as the innings closed on 184/8. Peter Andrews went for a first ball duck, but Max Johnson (42) and late injury replacement Oliver Chadwick (44) were piling on the runs. A dashing 36 not out from Freddie Carty helped seal a narrow 4 wicket win in an action packed affair.- Sunday XI lost vs Sanderstead by 58 runs.
The opposition racked up 209/4 declared despite two wickets from the evergreen Andrew Woolley and at 75/1 the chase looked like it could be on. Top score Shaunak Jani (42) departed and it was downhill from there to finish 151 all out.- Wild West Dons T20 XI lost vs School of Oriental and African Studies by 56 runs.
The first official game on the new NTP saw the opposition smash 221/2, with David Friar taking both wickets to fall. WWCC battled gamely in response with Fergus Ainsworth (54 retired not out) and Niall Johnson (32) leading the charge, but we finished comfortably short on 165/8.

Women's Cricket Last Week (4 May - 10 May):
- 1st XI lost vs Sinjungrammarians by 13 runs.
The inaugural league game for the side saw Madeline Fitzjohn take the first ever WWCC women's league wicket. It was an excellent fielding display with some good catches taken as the opposition posted 107/6 from 16 overs for a pairs net score of 277. At the half way stage WWCC were up with the required run rate, but wickets began falling which cost vital runs. The score eventually finished on 94/6 from 16 overs for a pairs net score of 264. It was a defeat but an incredibly close game and a memorable first league encounter. - Social XI played in a Surrey Cricket Foundation festival hosted at the Oval. This was a rescheduled tournament from last year that was rained off and was a great experience for all players.
