Senior Cricket Last Week (11 May - 17 May):

  • 1st XI lost vs Sunbury by 26 runs in Surrey Cricket Championship Division 8 Central.
  • David Friar (5/37) was the pick of the figures in an excellent team bowling and fielding performance. Unusually not a single chance was dropped and there were fine catches especially from newcomer Dan Hoos, skipper Andrew Merriman and Arin Gramopadhye. A strong Sunbury batting line up could only reach 119 all out and hopes were high for a second win in a row. Mark Streather (39) top scored for a second week, but he became one of five LBW victims for the opposition umpire. It was a valiant effort but against a very accurate opposition attack WWCC fell short on 93 all out.
  • 2nd XI lost vs Malden Wanderers by 74 runs in Surrey Cricket Championship Division 11 East Central.
  • The opposition paced their innings really well to reach 207/7 from their 40 overs. The WWCC response raced along to 81-0 largely thanks to Numayr Hussain (62). Unfortunately once the wickets started falling a collapse ensued, as WWCC finished on 133 all out.
  • 3rd XI won vs Chessington by 33 runs in Surrey Cricket Championship Division 12 East Central.
  • Late call up Uttam Gramopadhye held the batting together with a personal best 47, as WWCC reached 137 all out. It needed to be a good bowling and fielding performance defending a low total....and that's exactly what happened. Stand in skipper Simon Eddolls caught a long range screamer and Oliver Johnson (3/18) claimed the best figures. A late run out from Cieran Cartmell sealed the win with Chessington 104 all out. Two wins from two for the 3rd XI who sit top of the league.
  • Sunday XI won vs Normandy by 4 wickets.
  • Arin Gramopadhye and Matt Buxton (both 3/23) did the damage with the ball to reduce the opposition to 141 all out. There were some nervous moments in the chase but 64 not out from Gramopadhye home saw WWCC home to a 4 wicket win.
