Senior Cricket Last Week (1 - 7 June):
- 1st XI won vs Chessington by 63 runs in Surrey Cricket Championship Division 8 Central.
WWCC reached 25/1 from 7 overs in tough conditions for everyone with a hurricane blowing through the ground. A 45 minute delay followed after an unfortunate injury to a Chessington player, with another 30 minutes off the field because of rain. This meant the game was reduced from 45 to 37 overs per side. It was challenging for both batters and bowlers, but Jonny Hammond's 67 not out from 49 balls put WWCC on top as we reached 188/7. The opposition smashed their way to 56/0 from just 7 overs, but once the first wicket fell the runs slowly dried up. An excellent team bowling performance saw six different bowlers take wickets, with the opposition only able to reach 131 all out. A fine victory and it meant the 1st XI already have more wins than all of last season!- 2nd XI abandoned vs Wimbledon in Surrey Cricket Championship Division 11 East Central.
WWCC made 63/3 from 11 overs before the match was abandoned due to rain. - 3rd XI abandoned vs Epsom in Surrey Cricket Championship Division 12 East Central.
The opposition reached 40/3 from 14 overs before the match was abandoned due to rain. - Sunday XI won vs Barnestormers by 167 runs.
Fergus Ainsworth hit a brilliant 102 retired not out from just 63 balls to help push WWCC towards a big total. Arin Gramopadhye also made a rapid 61 to enable a final total of 267/6 from just 35 overs. The opposition never got going as the wickets shared around, with a shout out to Matt Mann for a wicket, two catches and a run out. 98 all out and a huge victory for the Sunday XI.
