Senior Cricket Last Week (10 - 16 August):

  • 1st XI won vs East Molesey by 8 runs in Surrey Cricket Championship Division 8 Central.
  • James Tait (91 not out) and Samuel Chadwick (89) dominated the batting as WWCC racked up 255/9 from 45 overs. Wickets fell regularly as Chadwick (4/60) left the opposition needing 90 from the last 10 overs with just three wickets remaining. Some spectacular lower order hitting meant that Arin Gramopadhye had 14 runs to defend from the final over, which was successfully achieved amidst much tension. A fine victory and it leaves the 1st XI in 5th place as we enter the final three weeks of the season.
  • 2nd XI won vs Worcester Park by 6 wickets in Surrey Cricket Championship Division 11 East Central.
  • Umang Patel (3/18) and Mo Dilshad (3/24) restricted the opposition to just 115 all out, before Haris Shahid (44) knocked off the runs in double quick time. With three weeks of the season remaining the 2nd XI sit in 4th, one place outside the promotion spots.
  • 3rd XI lost vs Wallington by 7 wickets in Surrey Cricket Championship Division 12 East Central.
  • Extras top scored as part of a woeful 107 all out for WWCC, which the opposition soon chased to run out comfortable winners. It was a blow to the team's promotion chances but the 3rd XI sit third (in a promotion place) with three games to go.
  • Sunday XI won vs Abinger by 106 runs.
  • James Gawn (101 not out) was brilliant in scoring a maiden hundred which helped WWCC to 213/6 declared. The opposition response never got going thanks to early wickets from Mo Dilshad (3/14), but the draw remained possible against some stubborn opposition batting. Jivi Singh (4/5) soon put a stop to that with a spectacular hat trick to help bowl them out for 107.
  • Sunday XI lost vs Nasir by 1 wicket.
  • Henry Peirse (34) top scored but WWCC could only reach 125 all out from just 24.5 overs. Rohit Nag (3/31) led the way with the ball, but Nasir scraped home to win by just 1 wicket.
  • Bank Blitz won vs HMRC by 15 runs.
  • A dreadful start saw WWCC reduced to 5/3, but Samuel Chadwick, Oliver Chadwick & John Jackson all hit the "25 and retire" mark to reach a competitive total of 149/6 in 20 overs. A fine team bowling performance helped restrict the opposition to 134/6 and a narrow victory.

  • Mitcham batted first and scored a competitive 104/3 from 16 overs for a pairs net score of 289, with Liz Harvey and Isabel Marsh both claiming a wicket. The response didn't start well with several early wickets, which left too large a hill to climb as the team reached 101/6 from 16 overs for a pairs net score of 271.
